Must Have: “Christmas in the Air”

Christmas in the Air CD coverI own a lot of Christmas music.

A lot.

So, it’s not often I get really excited about a new Christmas music release or (in this case) purchase.

But I am really, really excited about a two CD set we just added to our Coutdown2.Christmas Radio mix called “Christmas in the Air” from Jasmine Records.

From the Amazon listing (which is also where I got the image):

Featured are outstanding 1950s and 60s television artists who appeared in their own television shows or were frequent guests on various variety shows. Artists include Frankie Laine, Patti Paige, Perry Como, Dinah Shore, Arthur Godfrey, Marion Marlowe, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mercer, Eddie Fisher, The Ames Brothers and Eddy Arnold. Superb rarities are included by Nina Simone, Ethel Waters, George Beverly Shea, The Four Lads, Connee Boswell, Helen O’Connell, Art Lund, Clark Dennis, Betty Hutton, Tommy Edwards, Dennis Day and Danny Kaye. In addition to many traditional classic songs, Jasmine have included such tracks as “The Winter Snow”, “Christmas Choir”, “The Coventry Carol”, “Let’s Light The Christmas Tree”, “Kris Kringle”, “If It Doesn’t Snow On Christmas”, “Greenwillow Christmas” and a wealth of other titles. This set is a must!

Agreed! This set is a must!

Jasmine Records has done everyone a huge Christmastime favor by putting such an awesome collection together. Those old television shows not only had some of the best singers ever, they captured the Christmas spirit in a way I don’t see today.

Not that modern Hallmark Christmas movies don’t have their place. 🙂

Do yourself a favor and grab the CD set. It is going to end up on my 2017 must haves list when I put it together later this year.

Of course, when you don’t have your CDs handy, Countdown2.Christmas Radio will have its 55 songs in our mix…so you can catch them there. While I was typing this a tremendous song came on I didn’t recognize (Helen O’Connell singing “Sleep, Holy Child”), and sure enough it was off “Christmas in the Air.”

This is the best money I’ve spent on Christmas music this year…and trust me…I’ve spent quite a bit. 🙂

P.S. I should also note that the folks at Jasmine Records are great people. Their copyright was such I had to ask specific permission, and they were both kind and responsive. I will be spending more money on their unique and well-produced collections!

And a must it is!
