Russ Lorenson Joins our Playlist

Russ Lorenson - In the Holiday SpiritEvery once-in-a-while we get a request from an artist to add their work and so far every submission has been worthy of our airwaves. Holiday cheer has a way of making people sound good. 🙂

However, it is not often that someone with Russ Lorenson‘s chops comes along…and not with just one song…but a complete…totally holiday spirit infectious…album! So, we are proud to announce we’ve added Russ’ entire new release, “In the Holiday Spirit,” to the Countdown2.Christmas Radio playlist. I also suspect, as I get to listen to it more, it will become a part of the “Christmas Album ‘Must Haves’ (2015)” when that list comes out. (2014’s list is here.) Russ’ voice is perfect for the classic (and I think best) Christmas sound, and The Kelly Park Big Band complements his crooning perfectly. 5-star work!

Here’s is the write-up about the album:

Start with one healthy pour of brand-new holiday tunes, add a jigger of lesser-known gems from the Golden Age of Christmas Music, shake them together with a 16-piece big band, garnish with a candy-cane crooner, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for an intoxicating Yuletide cocktail that will get you In the Holiday Spirit!

“If you grew up listening to the classic crooners–Sinatra, Dino, Tony Bennett–no doubt you pull out those holiday albums every year. And, at least once as you listen to those timeless classics, the thought that “they just don’t make ’em like they used to” crosses your mind. We’ve been fortunate that Mr. Bennett is still going strong, even gracing us with new holiday recordings from time to time. But you have to look a little harder to find that, yes, every once in a while, someone makes ’em like they used to. As an album that harkens back to the days of Sinatra, Martin, Bennett, and Crosby, “In The Holiday Spirit” should get your Christmas music season started on a high note.” Martin John,

A big band, a swingin’ crooner, and holiday tunes you’re not already sick of hearing – what else do you need to get In The Holiday Spirit?

Russ Lorenson has established a reputation as one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s leading interpreters of jazz standards, with a sound and approach that place him at the intersection of Broadway, jazz, and pop – the very essence of the Great American Songbook. Best known for his critically-acclaimed tributes to Tony Bennett and Bobby Darin, his one-man celebrations of the lives and music of these two musical icons have played to soldout audiences across North America. His two previous CDs have received extensive radio airplay in major markets across the US. Jazz Review says that “Lorenson is not just a crooner covering the traditional Sinatra style or trying to be the next Connick; he is his own man.”

After you see those, you can understand why I recommend you pre-order this soon-to-be-a-classic album by Russ Lorenson with the Kelly Park Big Band on iTunes or Amazon Music. I have pre-ordered it via Amazon Music even though technically I don’t have to because I already have access to all the tracks.

But it’s that good. 🙂

(And I am a big supporter of new music and the artists that create it.)

Merry Christmas everyone…and no, it’s not too early to say that! 🙂
